Monet's Boats
This painting is by Claude Monet and was painted 1975, when Monet was living in a town called Argenteuil - a village a few miles from Paris. Argenteuil sits on the right bank along a picturesque stretch of the Seine. Monet was extremely productive while living here and created some of his most important paintings. During this period, he would often take a boat out to better understand the effect of sunlight on the water. In this painting, he seems to have wonderfully caught how the blue water contrasts with the rusty-red of the hulls of the boats.
